HCS SB 770 -- COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT RESTITUTION FUND SPONSOR: Mayer (Lipke) COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Crime Prevention and Public Safety by a vote of 11 to 0. This substitute specifies that no current or former elected officials will be appointed to the board of trustees supervising a county law enforcement restitution fund. The substitute also adds any moving violation, as defined by Section 302.010, RSMo, to the list of infractions for which a court may order payment to a county law enforcement restitution fund. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2007, FY 2008, and FY 2009. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill will allow a court to order a defendant to pay into a restitution fund when he or she receives a moving violation and will revise the laws to prohibit current officials from serving on a board supervising a county restitution fund. Testifying for the bill were Senator Mayer; and Missouri Sheriffs' Association. OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
